Dynamics 365 Project Operations - Enable on-account category in Dataverse

We are announcing the ability to sync transaction categories for retainers and milestones between Microsoft Dataverse and Dynamics 365 in Dynamics 365 Project Operations. This feature will reach public preview on September 30, 2026.

How does this affect me?
This feature enables categorization of retainers, milestones, and advances for accurate revenue posting in Dynamics 365 Finance. This feature will introduce the following capabilities:

• Expose Transaction Category field: This adds a Transaction Category field to Retainer and Milestone entities in Microsoft Dataverse.
• Data synchronization: Sync selected categories from Dataverse to finance and operations apps via Data Integrator and align with project categories in finance and operations apps for consistency.
