Manage Copilot connectors (Global setting) from Agent 365 - SetFederatedConnectors CLI toggle is retiring

The setFederatedConnectors CLI toggle for managing Microsoft 365 Copilot connectors is retiring by August 25, 2026. Connector governance will unify under the Allowed agent types setting in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Administrators should update workflows and review settings before October 5, 2026.

Note: If you organization is not using the setFederatedConnectors CLI toggle you can safely disregard this message.

[What and Why:]

We are unifying Microsoft 365 Copilot connector management into a single, streamlined administration experience in the Microsoft 365 admin center. This change makes it easier to govern connector and agent access from one location by retiring the command-line (CLI) toggle for setFederatedConnectors and aligning management under the Allowed agent types setting.

With this update, connector and agent settings will be governed through the same global tenant settings experience, providing a more consistent and centralized approach to administration and governance.

[Rollout Schedule:]

• By August 25, 2026: The command-line (CLI) toggle for setFederatedConnectors will be deprecated. Organizations using scripts, automation, or administrative processes that depend on this setting should transition to the new configuration experience before this date.
• Starting October 5, 2026: The Copilot Connectors page will honor the Allowed agent types setting for all tenants. Connector governance will no longer rely on the separate setFederatedConnectors CLI control.

What will happen:

• The setFederatedConnectors CLI toggle will be deprecated and eventually no longer used for connector governance.
• Connector and agent access controls will be governed from a single location through the Allowed agent types tenant setting.
• Beginning October 5, 2026, the Copilot Connectors page will enforce the configuration defined by Allowed agent types.
• If no action is taken, tenants will be governed according to the existing configuration and default posture associated with the Allowed agent types setting.
• Organizations should review current settings to ensure the resulting connector governance behavior aligns with their intended security and administration policies.

To avoid governance gaps and ensure the desired connector access posture is maintained, we recommend completing the following actions:

• Before August 25, 2026: Update scripts, automation, and administrative workflows that currently rely on the setFederatedConnectors CLI toggle.
• Before August 25, 2026: Transition connector governance management to the Allowed agent types setting in the Agent 365 section of the Microsoft 365 admin center.
• Before October 5, 2026: Review and validate your Allowed agent types configuration to ensure it reflects your organization's intended connector governance posture.
• Communicate this change to teams responsible for Microsoft 365 Copilot administration, security governance, and connector management.
