Summary

Rolling out worldwide from mid-October to mid-November 2026, this feature is enabled by default and requires no admin action.

Details

Updated August 6, 2026: We have updated the timeline. Thank you for your patience.

[What and Why]

We are introducing enhanced IntelliFrame capabilities for Teams Rooms on Windows using an expanded AI data channel on certified intelligent cameras. This update enables faster active speaker framing, improved in-room participant recognition and labeling, and more responsive meeting views.

By processing AI metadata directly on the device and sending it through a dedicated data channel rather than relying only on cloud processing, this feature reduces dependency on network conditions and improves performance in bandwidth-constrained environments. This helps deliver a more consistent and intelligent meeting experience for both in-room and remote participants.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 564969.

[Rollout Schedule]

  • General Availability (Worldwide): Beginning mid-October 2026 (previously mid-September) and expected to complete by mid-November 2026 (previously mid-October)

[Impact on Your Organization:]

Who is affected

  • Organizations using Teams Rooms on Windows with certified AI-capable cameras and Teams Rooms Pro licenses

Platforms/Services

  • Microsoft Teams
  • Teams Rooms on Windows
  • Certified intelligent (IC 2.0) cameras

What will happen

  • Meetings in supported Teams Rooms will automatically use enhanced IntelliFrame capabilities.
  • Active speaker framing will respond faster.
  • In-room participants will be individually recognized and labeled.
  • Meeting views will adjust more smoothly, including in low-bandwidth conditions.
  • Improvements will be visible to both in-room and remote meeting participants.
  • AI processing occurs on the device, with metadata sent through a dedicated data channel.
  • The feature is enabled by default.
  • There are no changes to existing meeting workflows. Remote and in-room participants will simply see improved framing and labeling.
  • Rooms without supported hardware or licensing are not affected and will continue with the current experience.

[Action Required/Recommendations]

No admin action is required to enable this feature.

To take advantage of the enhanced experience, we recommend the following:

  • Ensure Teams Rooms devices are licensed with Teams Rooms Pro.
  • Verify rooms are equipped with certified AI-capable (IC 2.0) cameras.
  • Ensure devices are running a supported Teams Rooms on Windows app version.
  • Review and update internal device procurement guidance to prioritize certified cameras.
  • Inform AV or meeting room support teams about this enhancement.
