Summary

Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android will adopt license-based management controls aligned with Teams Rooms Pro licenses starting April 23, 2026. Changes affect admin portal features based on Basic, Standard, or Pro licenses, with no impact on user meeting experience or non-Android devices. Admins should review license assignments accordingly.

Details

[Introduction]

We’re introducing license-based management controls for Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android (MTRA) and other Android-based Teams devices managed through the Teams Rooms Pro Management Portal. This update aligns management capabilities with existing Teams Rooms license entitlements (Basic, Standard, and Pro), helping admins clearly understand which monitoring and management features are available based on their licenses. This change improves transparency and ensures the portal experience reflects current licensing.

Note: These changes apply only to Android devices currently synced via Device Management (DM) services. IoT-based Android management convergence is still in progress and not yet generally available.

[When this will happen]

Global rollout:

  • Start: April 23, 2026
  • Completion: Late April 2026

[How this affects your organization]

Who is affected

  • Microsoft 365 admins managing Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android or other Android-based Teams devices
  • Applies only to devices synced through Device Management (DM) services
  • No impact to Windows-based Teams Rooms or iOS devices

What will happen

  • There is no change to the in-room meeting experience for users.
  • Changes apply only to the admin experience in the Teams Rooms Pro Management Portal.

After rollout, portal capabilities will reflect license entitlements as follows:

Teams Rooms Pro (Android):

  • Full advanced monitoring, diagnostics, and management capabilities remain available.

Teams Rooms Standard (Android):

  • Device inventory information (for example, firmware and app versions) remains visible.
  • Advanced management and diagnostic features are restricted.
  • Upgrade prompts may appear where advanced features are accessed.

Teams Rooms Basic (Android):

  • Devices remain visible in Rooms and Inventory views.
  • Advanced monitoring, diagnostics, and configuration features are not available.

This update enforces existing license entitlements and clearly separates inventory visibility from advanced management functionality.

[What you can do to prepare]

  • Review license assignments for Android-based Teams Rooms devices.
  • If you rely on advanced monitoring or management features, ensure those devices are licensed with Teams Rooms Pro.
  • No action is required if you’re using Basic or Standard licenses and do not need advanced management features.
  • Consider notifying helpdesk or operations teams about potential upgrade prompts in the management portal.

[Compliance considerations]

No compliance considerations identified. Review as appropriate for your organization.
