We’re enhancing SharePoint site analytics to include usage data from OneNote files (.one). This update provides a more complete view of site engagement by incorporating OneNote activity into metrics such as Unique viewers and site visits. Popular content reporting will also reflect heavily used OneNote files.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout begins mid-February 2026 (previously mid-January) and is expected to complete by mid-March 2026 (previously mid-February).

  • Who is affected: Admins and users who monitor SharePoint site analytics.
  • What will happen:
    • Expect an increase in reported site usage metrics, including unique viewers and site visits, as OneNote file activity will now be included.
    • user settings

    • The Popular content section in site analytics will display OneNote files if they are among the most accessed in the last 7 days.
    • user settings

    • No admin configuration changes are required; this update is enabled by default.
