Dynamics 365 Commerce - Defer gift card activation until post customer payment

We are announcing the ability to defer gift card activation until post customer payment in Dynamics 365 Commerce. This feature will reach general availability on September 12, 2025.

How does this affect me?
This feature enhances the design of external gift cards by ensuring they are activated, and funds are made available only after customer payment is received.

Until the payment is received, the gift card remains inactive. Similarly, any balance addition requests on the existing gift cards are not issued unless the payment is completed. Once the payment is received, the Point of Sale sends the request to the payment terminal to activate or add balance to the gift cards.

This functionality is enabled using the "Enable gift card balance post-payment completion" feature flag.
