Introduction
Starting October 1, 2025, Viva Insights will retire its organizational data upload feature in the Advanced Analytics app. All organizational data imports and management will move to the Microsoft 365 admin center. This change requires immediate action to ensure uninterrupted data uploads.
Action: Assign the Organizational data source admin role to the personnel that’ll be responsible for uploading organizational data in Microsoft 365 admin center.

This change will be made in waves. Viva Insights tenants have been placed into one of three migration phases. If you’re receiving this message, you’re in Phase 2, beginning October 1, 2025.
How this affects your organization
Key changes:
Viva Insights will remove its organizational data upload feature in the Advanced Analytics app.
From October 1, 2025, all organizational data imports and management will take place in the Microsoft 365 admin center, and the Organizational data source administrator role or Global admin permission is required to upload data.
Who is affected?
Customers in Phase 2.
If you’d like your current Viva Insights admin to keep uploading organizational data in the Microsoft 365 admin center, assign them the Organizational data source administrator role or the Global admin role.
Global administrator and Global reader:
- The fully permissioned role for uploading organizational data in Viva Insights in the Microsoft 365 admin center is Organizational data source administrator role or the Global administrator.
- Note that the Global reader can only view the feature and settings, not upload data.
- You may choose to assign the Organizational data source administrator role, the Global admin role and/or Global reader privileges to your Viva Insights admin.
Viva Insights admins:
If your current Viva Insights admin does not have Organizational data source administrator or Global admin role, they won’t be able to upload data in the Microsoft 365 admin center starting October 1, 2025, unless they’re granted the appropriate permissions.
Data source admins:
These admins usually manage the Human Capital Management (HCM) systems your company uses. They must now work alongside the Organizational data source administrator or the Global admin and Viva Insights admin to ensure successful data uploads through the Microsoft 365 admin center.

- You MUST assign the Organizational data source administrator to the current Viva Insights admin or any personnel that’ll be responsible for uploading organizational data in the Microsoft 365 admin center starting October 1, 2025.
- Viva Insights admin MUST determine their Global admin and the Organizational data source administrator and inform them of this change.
