Summary

The planned changes to Microsoft Entra access package visibility, set for October 2025, have been cancelled after feedback. No action is required now. Previously, packages scoped to specific users would have become visible to all members by default, with new settings to control visibility and compliance considerations.

Details

Updated August 15, 2025: The previously announced changes to access package visibility have been cancelled. After reviewing feedback and assessing impact, we have decided not to proceed with the planned changes. We appreciate the input shared and remain committed to delivering solutions that align with your needs and expectations. No action is required at this time. Our Message Center post, Microsoft Learn documentation, and informative banner in the Microsoft Entra admin center will be updated in the coming days to reflect the cancellation of the change.

Starting October 10, 2025, Microsoft Entra Entitlement Management will change how access packages scoped to “Specific users and groups” are displayed in the My Access portal. These packages will become visible to all members (excluding guests) by default. This update enhances discoverability but may require action to maintain current visibility restrictions.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability: We will begin rolling out in mid-October 2025 and expect to complete by late October 2025.

[How this will affect your organization:]

  • Access packages scoped to “Specific users and groups” will be visible to all members (excluding guests) in the My Access portal.
  • These packages will be discoverable but not requestable by unauthorized users.
  • A new tenant-wide setting will also be introduced to control whether users can see the names of groups and apps (resource roles) included in access packages.
[What you need to do to prepare:] [Compliance considerations:]
  • Does the change alter how existing customer data is processed, stored, or accessed? - Yes. Visibility of access packages and resource roles is expanded.
  • Does the change alter how admins can monitor, report on, or demonstrate compliance activities? - Maybe. Admins may need to review visibility settings for compliance reporting.
