Coming soon to Microsoft Defender: Updated password functionality for downloading Quarantine items through the Export-QuarantineMessage cmdlet in Microsoft PowerShell.
[When this will happen:]
General Availability (Worldwide, GCC, GCC High): We began rolling out late April 2025 and expect to complete by late May 2025.
[How this will affect your organization:]
With this rollout, we will offer the -PasswordV2 parameter as a new experience that allows admins and users to pass plain text for their passwords when exporting Quarantine items in PowerShell cmdlet. Admins and users should use the -PasswordV2 parameter, because using the previous -Password parameter may cause errors and -Password won't be available in the longer term.

This change will be available by default.
[What you need to do to prepare:]
The purpose of this message is for awareness. This rollout will happen automatically by the specified dates with no admin action required before the rollout. Review your current configuration to assess the impact on your organization. You may want to notify your users about this change and update any relevant documentation.
